Pedigree Adoption Drive
Last week I was away from the practice helping launch this years Pedigree Adoption Drive. This is an annual event run by Pedigree supporting dog rescue centres around the UK.
Dog abandonment numbers have reached an eleven year high with over 120,000 dogs abandoned this year alone. Rescue centres are having to turn dogs away as they have no room for new animals coming in. Local authorities often have a seven day rule that if they cannot find a new home or space in a rescue centre they will euthanase an animal after this time. As a nation of animal lovers this is truly shocking and depressing.
I am very honoured to be asked to be ambassador to this years Adoption Drive and want to help get the message as far and wide as possible. I visited a rescue centre in Watford last month to see the wonderful work they do there. As a member of the Association of Dog and Cat Homes (ADCH) they are committed to helping as many pets find new loving homes. They spend a great deal of time and money preparing each animal for their new home: neutering, microchipping, treating for fleas and worms and vaccinating, plus any medical or surgical complaints dealt with. We would love as many people as possible to log on to:
and see what is going on. By spending 5 minutes walking a dog around the internet you can unlock a £1 donation which as I type has already raised over £50,000. Any help you can give will go a long way to helping dogs in need all over the UK.
Thank you.
